About

What Steel AF is about and why this site exists.

Steel is the most used metal on the planet. It holds up your buildings, moves your car, and runs through the infrastructure you never think about. And yet, most people — even people who work with it — carry around a head full of half-truths about how it actually works.

This site exists to fix that.

Steel AF is a blog for anyone who’s ever wondered why stainless steel still stains, why sparks fly off a grinder, or why two pieces of the “same” steel can behave completely differently. The answers are more interesting than you’d expect.

Who’s this for?

Everyone. Engineers will find practical depth. Students will find clear explanations without the textbook fog. Hobbyists and makers will finally understand the material they’re working with. And if you just like knowing how things work, you’ll feel right at home.

Who writes this?

Someone who works in precision manufacturing and learned material science the hard way — not from a textbook, but from spec sheets, shop floors, and the occasional mistake that cost real money.
